Is Huacachina worth visiting or too touristy?

It's absolutely touristy - no locals actually live there, it exists for travelers. But the dune buggy experience and desert landscape are legitimately spectacular. Go for 1-2 nights, enjoy it for what it is.

Can we stay in Ica instead of Huacachina?

You can, but why? Ica is a working city with little tourist appeal. Huacachina is the attraction. Unless you're doing serious wine touring, stay at the oasis.

How much does the bus cost versus private transfer?

Bus: $15-20 to Ica plus $5 taxi to Huacachina. Private: $240+ total. For groups of 3-4, private is comparable per-person with vastly better convenience. Solo travelers, bus makes economic sense.

Can we stop at pisco distilleries en route?

Is the drive safe?

Very. Panamericana Sur is well-maintained major highway. The Ica-to-Huacachina desert road is short and paved. No safety concerns with reputable drivers.

Should we do this as day trip from Lima or stay overnight?

Stay overnight minimum. It's 4+ hours each way - doing round-trip same day wastes most of your time driving. Huacachina deserves sunset dune buggy tour and next morning exploration.

What's the party scene like?

Depends when you visit. Weekends and Peruvian holidays see hostels blasting music till dawn. Weekdays are quieter. It's backpacker party central - embrace it or earplugs.

Can we do Paracas and Huacachina same trip?

Absolutely. They're only 80 km apart. Many travelers do Paracas for Ballestas Islands, then transfer to Huacachina for dunes. Or reverse. Both make excellent Lima escapes.
